other
instruments can join in for a street party in eg the intersection suggested,
whistles, brass can be good for an echo. Has anyone else ever seen the
women's Teapot Marching Band they are excellent, as are bagpipe troupes
anyone know any willing to come out and lively up the proceedings.
All
the hassled buskers from the streets could do their own affinity. It
is common enough action in other cities in the "3rd world"
eg Brazil for musicians to turn up to protests and do their bit as a
large chorus.
Fire-eaters,
stilt walkers, circus acrobats, pupeteers, chalk-writers (chalking outlining
bodies on roads and walls gets good interaction with kids and all hanging
about -they can then write in their name/that of their heroines etc
or a rant, slogan they want to see, as it is chalk is not so scarey
as for some people to use spray paint can ie dmage 'property'), street
theatre could use the matresses., blocked intersections to do some performing
for a break from the otherwise ritualistic behaviour of stand off with
cops, speakers you know the drill.
Flour
bomb targetting of a protester dressed as Ronald McDonald clown was
done in Wellington last May Day outside the Mackas inevitably some missed
and messed up the entrance.
A
swooshtika/Nike logo made huge in carboard, or a liberated Golden Arches,
Coca Cola sign carried as a trophy for "destruction" at a
chosen time or location. Empty TV sets (so they are lighter to carry)
with plastic/cling film to replace glass and something different pasted
on screen or displayed inside to place in the lounge room in the intersection
along the routes would brighten up the place.
"TV
sets" made from cardboard can be worn to mock the 15 minutes of
fame/media hype that is expected with wearers able to take off pass
on to others en route eg turn up outside Flinders Street station/footy
finals and wearing a carboard tv with s11 on screen distro leaflets
might work better to attract the jaded always being leafletteed City
commuter crowd.eg
for leaflet a nice graphic of an australian flag disappearing under
corporate logos, as what we now salute, would be useful as whatever
language you speak the Oz Flag and Corporate logos are alas familiar.
A
paste up of posters on a City Building construction site wall was undertaken
last December at end of East Timor rally and earlier in year at Jabiluka
rally as crowd marched.
Such
events if lots of people interacting can also be a good 'diversion'
for those wanting to do other actions without so much scrutiny as a
bored crowd with plain clothes cops attached ensures.
