Jeff's
economic message to all Victorians: Sharing is bad for the economy
I say to them choosing a destination is sabotaging progress. What would we do once we got there? We would have to stop. No, we must move, move blindly into the future. Blindly, without vision? Why not? 'Vision' is a redundant concept. We use 'image' - it's more 90's. Find me a community organisation with a good ad-man and I'll give you a Government contract. One of the proudest achievements of the Kennett Government has been in its tireless promotion of privacy over public, dollars over community. There is no way we can work together in this dog-eat-dog world: you sink or you swim. And from here on in, thats the way it shall be in Victoria. It surely isnt a legacy to be easily erased or forgotten. This extends well beyond moving a bit of public real estate to clear a few bad debts. Give us some credit - weve sold billions! Weve moved over $33 thousand million dollars of public goods to the private sector. Utilities, transport, and most of the government itself. The lot. And weve had a bit of fun with the money too, I might add. We bought a triple-A credit rating. Isnt that something every Victorian can be proud of? Well, youd be foolish not too, because that cost a few billion alone. It impressed some very rich businessmen. I loved mentioning it when talked to the press. Divide the money carefully, and youd be amazed how many people thirty billion dollars will satisfy. At least a dozen, and possibly quite a few more. Now
that we have put all of these so-called service industries into their
rightful hands - international conglomerates mostly - they can get on
with the serious business of making money. Have you people any idea how
difficult it is to get kickbacks from public utilities? No, I dont
suppose any of you do; but look at the grief I get for using a public
office credit card. Private ownership produces good government. That stands
to reason. Wake up people, and stop listening to those bloody environmentalists who tell you not to consume, and give their pathetic sob stories of horror and destruction. Consumption is good! Its what makes the economy tick over. Every time you share the economy suffers. We must make commodities to help our economy grow and business to make profit. Whenever you share, shareholders suffer. So for Victorias sake, dont share!
